7 Brands That Got Inclusive Marketing Right Welcome to Creator Columns, where we bring expert HubSpot Creator voices to the Blogs that inspire and help you grow better. As an inclusive marketing strategist and consultant, one of the things I find myself having to educate clients on is the right way to think about marketing inclusively. At its core, inclusive marketing is all about helping a brand attract and retain more of the people who have the problem that brand solves. Good marketing is inclusive. The consumers your brand serves have a number of different identities that impact their product decision-making process, their degree of success, as well as the experiences they have while considering and using your product. Brands that acknowledge the ways in which consumers are different, and then find ways to better serve those differences, are making a big impact with more consumers and growing as a result. In the examples below, I’ll walk you through how seven different brands effectively approach inclusive marketing, which enables them to attract and retain more of the customers they want to reach. Examples of Effective Inclusive Marketing 1. Mattel leans into inclusive product design. More than 300 million people worldwide are colorblind. In the summer of 2024, Mattel announced its journey to making its games colorblind-accessible. The brand noted 80% of its games would meet this standard by the end of 2024, including UNO, Skip-bo, and Kerplunk, and 90% of the portfolio would be colorblind-accessible by the end of 2025. A...

Millennials vs. Gen Z: Why Marketers Need to Know the Difference In recent years, there's been a common misconception that Gen Z and millennials are essentially the same. When companies discuss reaching younger audiences, many often lump Gen Z and millennials into the same group and create one campaign strategy that they believe fits both groups. Sure, many millennials and Gen Zers are considered "young adults." Both generations are highly connected to technology and the internet. It might seem effective to run one campaign aimed at both generations, but is this really the right move? To investigate, I decided to start by letting consumers weigh in on whether or not the same marketing strategies will engage both age groups. In a Lucid poll, I asked 350 people to tell me if, "The same marketing tactics that persuade millennials also work on Gen Z," was a true or false statement. And if you think consumers — the people who are being marketed to by brands — would sway one way or another, you'll be slightly surprised by the results below: Data Source: Lucid Software Although 56% of those polled thought the two generations could be marketed to the same way, nearly half disagreed. As a marketer specializing in audience growth, I sway with the 44% of people who think the same tactics won't work on both groups — at least not forever. But is either group of consumers right about their perceptions? In this...

11 Free Email Hacks to Step Up Your Productivity If you’re anything like me, a solid portion of your day is sifting through your inbox, sending emails to junk, and responding to time-sensitive emails. Need some help managing it? We’ve got free email hacks that will help you better manage your inbox so you can focus on the important stuff. 11 Free Email Hacks to Step Up Your Productivity 1. Turn off your notifications or pause emails. Other than social media, email is where most people get flooded with notifications. Better yet, you can pause incoming emails from even showing up in your inbox – if your email provider allows it. Image Source Outlook users can pause notifications through the Boomerang app and unpause when they’re ready to tackle them. 2. Block out times for batch email review. Emails can come at all hours of the day and if you’re working with a team asynchronous, there are no off-hours. So, instead of constantly checking your emails and responding to each one as it comes, set aside blocks of time during your day to review them. This can be early morning, late afternoon, or whenever when you expect to have some downtime. Pro-tip: Once you decide on this time block, add it to your calendar to avoid conflicts with...

How Much Should Your Marketing Team Budget for 2021? When I was hired for my first marketing role, I got really excited to pitch new, exciting ideas to my team. And I thought — as long as I had data to support the potential success of a project — that my team would be thrilled to hear these ideas. Which they were. But they were also cautious, and one of their biggest concerns was, "Okay, this sounds great … but how much is it going to cost?" Ultimately, being a successful marketer isn't just about thinking strategically. It's also about adhering to a strict budget, and achieving new levels of growth while simultaneously choosing the most cost-effective option for your business. Here, we'll explore typical marketing budgets, as well as marketing budgets by industry, so you can determine how your budget matches up against competitors. Plus, we'll explore how much of your yearly revenue you should re-invest in marketing materials to see stronger long-term growth. What's a typical marketing budget percentage?
