AI engine optimization audit: How to audit your content for AI search engines An AI engine optimization audit evaluates brand visibility, accuracy, and citations in AI-powered search engines. It highlights how a brand appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Bing Copilot, and identifies gaps in the facts, descriptions, and links these systems rely on. In contrast, a traditional SEO audit focuses on website rankings and technical health in classic search engines. AI search extracts information directly from content, public sources, and structured data. This shift changes how buyers discover brands and validate solutions. Growth-focused teams benefit from precise, consistent brand details in AI summaries, as these summaries influence early research, shortlists, and pipeline creation. This post gives teams a complete workflow for running an AI engine optimization audit, priority fixes, a practical checklist, and the HubSpot tools that support the process. Each section offers clear steps for testing visibility across AI engines, measuring accuracy, updating content, and publishing structured, AI-friendly pages at scale. Answer engine optimization vs. traditional SEO: What marketers need to know

Answer engine optimization vs. traditional SEO: What marketers need to know Understanding answer engine optimization (AEO) vs. traditional SEO has become mission-critical for content managers and marketing leaders as search shifts toward AI-generated responses, voice results, and zero-click experiences. While page ranking on Google is still important (for now), success increasingly depends on whether a brand stays visible when an AI system summarizes an answer. Traditional SEO still drives performance for long-form content, rankings, and organic traffic. AEO, however, determines whether a brand appears in AI Overviews, featured snippets, and voice search. Answer engine optimization and traditional SEO models run in parallel, and they rely on different signals, content structures, and measurement frameworks. This guide breaks down AEO vs. SEO, where each one is most effective, and how teams can combine the two. The post also highlights tools — including HubSpot’s AEO Grader, Website Grader, Marketing Hub, and Content Hub — that help teams build content for both AI-driven and classic search visibility. Table of Contents Why Answer Engine Optimization Is Different From Traditional SEO How Answer Engine Optimization vs. Traditional SEO Differ in Practice When to prioritize AEO strategies over SEO hybrid approaches Measuring AEO Alongside Traditional SEO Tradeoffs of Answer Engine Optimization vs. SEO Frequently Asked Questions About Answer Engine optimization vs. traditional SEO Why Answer Engine Optimization Is Different From Traditional SEO Answer engine optimization is different from traditional SEO because AEO prepares content for direct...

SEO audits: How to conduct one that drives traffic growth At its core, an SEO audit is a step-by-step review of your website’s technical health, content quality, and search visibility. An SEO audit identifies technical, on-page, content, and link issues on a website. It helps SEO teams identify, prioritize, and fix the issues that block traffic, rankings, and, importantly, conversions. Businesses and SEO teams should create audits to identify opportunities that advance business goals and growth. A modern audit goes beyond identifying issues that further traditional blue-check rankings in Google Search. With AI search reshaping how users discover brands, marketers now need to evaluate entity signals, brand visibility in AI answers, and how well their content performs in generative engines. In this guide, you’ll learn how to run an SEO audit that’s helpful in today’s search landscape. I’ve included clear steps, examples, and an SEO audit checklist to help SEO professionals at any skill level drive measurable traffic growth. Entity-based SEO: An explainer for SEOs and content marketers

Entity-based SEO: An explainer for SEOs and content marketers Entity-based SEO is a content optimization strategy built around concepts, relationships, and context rather than isolated keyword phrases. Search engines identify entities — distinct concepts, people, places, or things — and connect them through the Knowledge Graph to interpret meaning and determine topical authority. This approach mirrors a fundamental shift in how search systems work. Google no longer simply matches text; it maps how concepts relate to one another and evaluates whether content meaningfully contributes to a subject’s broader ecosystem. As large language models like ChatGPT and Gemini increasingly shape how information surfaces, the strength of entity signals determines which sources get cited, referenced, and ranked. This guide covers what entities are in SEO, how they differ from keywords, where to find the ones that matter, how to structure content around entity relationships, and how to measure whether the strategy works. Table of Contents What are entities in SEO? Why Entity-Based SEO Matters for Content and SEO Marketers How to Find Entities for SEO How to Plan Topic Clusters With SEO Entities How to Measure and Report on Entity-Based SEO Strategy Frequently Asked Questions About Entity-Based SEO What are entities in SEO? Entities are distinct concepts, people, places, or things that search engines identify and connect within the Knowledge Graph. These relationships help systems interpret meaning instead of relying on exact-match phrases. Search engines use entities to understand how topics...

How Content Audits Help The HubSpot Blog Age Backwards — A Peek Into Our Process In 2023, my team and I began working on perhaps one of the most ambitious content audits ever conducted on the HubSpot Blog. We’ve run content audits in the past — but not like this. We ran the audit in three phases: Phase 1 addressed our oldest content. Phase 2 evaluated our lowest-performing content. Phase 3 assessed the value of our topic clusters. When it was all said and done, we audited over 10,000 blog post URLs and over 450 topic clusters. In this post, I’m going to focus on phase one of our audit. I’ll walk you through how we audited our oldest content and how we took action. Plus, I’ll share the results we found. But first, let me give you some background on why we decided to run an audit of this magnitude. Why We Audited It all started in early 2023. At the time, my team was called the Historical Optimization team and we sat at the intersection of HubSpot’s SEO and Blog teams. We were responsible for updating and optimizing our existing blog posts and finding growth opportunities within our library. (We’ve since evolved into what is now the EN Blog Strategy team.) In case you’re new here, the HubSpot Blog is HUGE. For context, the blog was home to 13,822 pages in February of 2023, the month we began our audit. While...
